Overview
Over a year ago, I was able to have the wonderful opportunity to visit a mysterious island called Mauritius! This island is about 900 km east of Madagascar, which means that it is surrounded by the warm Indian Ocean. It is also part of the Mascarene Islands, which encompasses La Réunion and Rodrigues as well.
The Gems
Even though the city, Port Louis, is beautiful and reminds me of home, there is something that has always caught my eye in Mauritius. The landmarks! There are numerous landmarks that tourists from all across the world come to visit, like the 7 Colored Earths, or Le Morne. But there are a few hidden places on the island that only the locals know about. So I am here today to tell you the top 3 hidden gems that this island has to offer!
Pont Naturel
This place is one of the best places for a first timer visiting Mauritius, which is why it is on the top of my list. "Pont Naturel" means "Natural Bridge" in French. Which leads to the beauty of the landmark. Pont Naturel is a piece of volcanic rock that has been carved by the strong waves that hit it. But beware, this landmark is not a place to swim. Due to the fact that this landmark is a small cavity along the rocks in the south of Mauritius. The street to this landmark is hidden in between two houses. After a few miles of rugged roads and alongside sugar cane fields, there is a small area to park your car. Once you get out of your car, there is a little under a mile of walking under the cooling canopy of trees. the trail then opens up to the ocean. Then you will reach Pont Naturel! The best time to go to this landmark, is right before the sunset.
Pro Tip: Avoid visiting during bad weather due to sea level and waves rising.
Chateau De Labourdonnais
Next up on my list, is the luxurious Chateau De Labourdonnais. This 540 acre property was built in 1774. It was originally use as a vanilla plantation, but recently, it is not used as a place for special events to be held, such as weddings. Or it could simply be used as a place for complete peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle from the cities in Mauritius. The fact that this chateau has only recently been open to the public to visit, the chances of tourists to come and visit this place are slim to none.
Poste La Fayette
Last but not least, the tranquil beache in all of Maruitius, Poste La Fayette! Let's face it, the whole purpose of going to Mauritius is for their magnificent beaches. However, there is one major misconception when it comes to the beaches in Mauritius. Everyone goes to Flic en Flac, which is another beach
located on the west side of the island, and they think that this is the best beach since it is not only clean, but it is close enough to the city. But if you are the kind of tourist that is not interested in always being near the city, then Post La Fayette is the perfect beach for you. Located on the east side of the island, this beach is not only away from the large crowds of tourists, but it is also one of the cleanest beaches that Mauritius has to offer. Simply imagine yourself lying down in the sun while drinking coconut water directly from a coconut and listening to the waves rolling onto the sand without a single sound of a human anywhere near you. It cannot get more peaceful and pleasant than this!
Thank you for making people dream about their next travel destination. Mauritius island is close to paradise for sure if you can get to these special places mentionned in your blog. See you soon and lovely pictures!
